Bovis Lend Lease’s contract as project manager on Moscow’s £220m new airport terminal has been extended until construction on the 170,000 sq m building is completed in two years.

The company’s contract was extended by OAO Terminal, a special purpose vehicle formed by the Russian national airline Aeroflot

to project manage the construction of a third terminal at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International Airport.

The new terminal will be built on a 50-hectare site and will have capacity for 9m passengers a year, in addition to the existing terminals’ annual capacity of 12.8m people.

Bovis said it would complete the procurement process in the next few months with the tendering of specialist airport packages, including air passenger boarding bridges, baggage handling systems, airport specific IT systems, air navigation equipment and an aircraft refuelling network. Turkish general contractor Enka was commissioned to build the terminal in June.

Bovis has been involved in the project since April 2001, when it was first appointed to oversee the pre-construction and planning phase.
