10:45AM British firm teams up with Russian partner to target Eastern European project management clean-up work

British Nuclear Group Project Services, NUKEM GmbH and Rosatomstroy (RAS), of Russia, have formed a project management alliance to target nuclear clean-up opportunities. The alliance will target new and impending member countries of the EU. Its first move will be to bid for project management work on the decommissioning of the Ignalina nuclear power plant unit one in Lithuania.

The focus will initially be on projects in states eligible for funding from the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development. Later the alliance will target Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union.

Paul Hamer, managing director, British Nuclear Group Project Services, said: “The alliance is a key part of Project Services’ strategy of working closely with selected partners to combine expertise in the delivery of nuclear and decommissioning projects for the benefit of customers. Each of the parties brings specific experience and strengths to the relationship which, we believe, give this team unparalleled strength.”

He said: “Our Russian partners’ in-depth knowledge of the architecture, engineering and infrastructure of the Ignalina plant will be invaluable alongside Project Services' expertise in decommissioning graphite reactors and NUKEM’s knowledge of building complete nuclear plants across Europe”

More than 80% of the alliance’s employees are Russian speaking.
