The Birmingham Sandwell pathfinder is to follow in the footsteps of the Merseyside body by carving up market renewal work between local housing associations.
A report by the National Housing Federation on Monday has recommended that the area, which covers 60,000 homes, be divided among 23 neighbourhood champions. These will be led by one body – likely to be an association – that will coordinate work in each zone.

The NHF report outlines which associations own homes in the pathfinder area.

It found that 39 associations work in the pathfinder – some with just one house in a postcode – resulting in a potentially patchy service to tenants.

Other associations should decide whether to increase or decrease their presence in each neighbourhood. The associations in a neighbourhood could work together to provide services, swap stock or demolish homes.

No decisions have been taken on who will lead or pull out of each neighbourhood. Front-runners to lead neighbourhoods include Black Country Housing and Community Services Group, Family Housing Association [Birmingham], Keynote Housing Group, Prime Focus Housing Group and Jephson Housing Association.
