Some of the biggest companies in the industry have taken part in significant business deals this month.
A management buyout team from Baxall has bought the entire share capital of Upperpoint Manufacturing Ltd, while Bewator has been acquired by Siemens Building Technologies.
The Upperpoint companies consist of two separate legal entities, operating in the security manufacturing and distribution markets.
The distribution business comprises Norbain SD Ltd in the UK, Norbain Portugal and Reditron in South Africa, while the manufacturing business is centred on Baxall Ltd.
Alun John, CEO of Upperpoint Distribution Ltd, said on behalf of Upperpoint shareholders: "We have decided to focus our future investments on our core distribution activity and are delighted to be able to pass control of the manufacturing business to members of its management team, who will no doubt build upon and accelerate the investment we have already made."
Richard Law, MD of Baxall and leader of the management buyout team, said: "As an independent entity we will be able to benefit from the best of two worlds. We will be in a position to continue and strengthen our trading relationships with the Upperpoint Distribution companies and at the same time push forward with our growth and product innovation plans without recourse to competing for group resources."
In the other major development, Siemens Building Technologies says it will "establish Bewator as a Global Centre of Competence for access control products".
A statement from the two companies said: "Bewator has been acquired by Siemens to create a platform for growth and there will be no changes to Bewator's daily business operations, with a maintained strong focus on customers. Bewator's organisation structure and management will remain in place. Bewator will also continue to operate under the Bewator brand."
Francois Xavier-Hedon, head of the fire safety and security products division at Siemens, said: "Bewator is an exciting company.
“ We look forward to developing strong and growth-oriented partnerships with Bewator's product distributors and installers."
Siemens Building Technologies has appointed Clark MacFarlane as its new MD. He joins the team from Siemens' Power Generation division.
