Burke Hunter Adams is acting as QS on the fit-out of the top floor of Norman Foster’s Swiss Re Tower for hedge fund manager Cardinal Asset Management.
Contractor Ibex Interiors starts work next week and is due to finish by July 2005. Hanson Cribb & Confederate Architects have designed the 34th floor, which has an area of 622m2.
The ‘Gherkin’, which remains half empty, was last week at the centre of questions over the safety of its façade after a glass window fell 400ft to the ground. A spokesman said Swiss Re had begun an investigation into the incident and building engineers were inspecting similar triangular windows.
Projects under BHA’s belt include 60 London Wall for ING Bank, designed by Whinney Mackay Lewis, Butlers Wharf, London, for Prestbury Group, the City & County Museum in Lincoln for the local authority and Brighton Station for Railtrack.
Architect Andrew Hanson said: “Cardinal has clear goals about what this space should say to its clients. We have reflected this by embedding cryptic ideas into the design – Cardinal’s clients and staff will become aware of these through experiencing the space we have created. Our design incorporates elements of the city establishment, such as veneered joinery and leather, combined with more contemporary ideas.”
