Building Design Partnership has set its own targets for cutting CO2 emission for all new buildings it designs.
The self-imposed goal aims to reduce emissions to around 25% below current Building Regulations for all non-residential schemes. In addition all new projects will be given performance rating labels.

The announcement was made following the firm's annual directors' conference, which this year focussed on the tipping point for sustainability in response to the new EU directive on the energy performance of buildings.

Nick Terry, BDP chairman said: "The new regulations will be instrumental in helping to achieve the Bruntland Report's triple bottom line objective of social, economic and environmental sustainability. As a consequence BDP is setting for itself the strictest environmental performance targets as a means of delivering sustainable development in the UK and Europe".

BDP's new environmental strategy will be led by Trevor Butler, director of the firm's Sustainability Group.
