Mark Clare, chief executive of Barratt Developments, has been appointed chair of the UKGBC task group on zero carbon homes.

The group will include 12 representatives from major house builders, engineers, developers and energy suppliers. It will report to government on the definition of zero carbon and recommend a way to include off-site renewables in plans.

Clare said: “The purpose of the group is to examine the options for meeting the energy needs of very efficient homes to achieve the target of zero carbon development by 2016, while optimising the use of the UK’s renewable resources locally and nationally. The industry needs clarity sooner rather than later.”

The members of the UKGBC zero carbon task group are: Mark Clare, Barratt Developments (chair); Karl Whiteman, Berkeley Homes; Julia Plaskett, Crest Nicholson; Julian Brooks, Brooks Devlin; Dan Labbad, Lend Lease; Chris Twinn, Arup; Neil Cutland, Inbuilt; Alan Yates, BRE; Philip Wolfe, REA; Charles Bradshaw-Smith, E.ON; Simon McWhirter, WWF-UK; Steve Carr, English Partnerships.
