The gathering of around 1300 guests went wild as the football rose to a penalty shoot-out crescendo. And even if England didn't quite pull off a victory, the audience were happy to applaud the real winners of the evening – those who walked away with our restyled Building Services Awards trophies.
Host Rory Bremner proved a real hit, lifting audience spirits with some biting comedy and well-observed impressions.
One of our new awards for 2004 was Young Engineer of the Year, taken by Neil Sutherland of Buro Happold. Also appearing for the first time was Integrated Supply Team of the Year, given to a joint team of Taylor Woodrow, NG Bailey, Staveley Services and Rotary Group for their creation of the Strategic Alliance Partnership.
One of our most popular awards is Young Apprentice of the Year. This year's winner Rebecca Ritsema (pictured) is the first woman to enter the award – and our first female winner.
Big winners were Buro Happold for Large Consultancy of the Year, and Southern Electric Contracting for Major M&E Contractor of the Year. This year's top large project was the Met Office, entered by Haden Young and Zisman Bowyer & Partners.
If you'd like to appear on our winners' list next year, keep your eyes open for more information on the 2005 Awards which will appear later this year.
