ACT Meters Ltd, supplier of alarm test equipment and false alarm management products, is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the launch of 20 new products.
The award winning company’s testers can be found in the toolboxes of thousands of installers worldwide. ACT was presented with the Security Industry Award in New York and IFSEC Award for its Intelligent Battery Tester and has won other industry accolades – although it employs just four members of staff.
David Grant, MD said the company philosophy to continually design retrofit solutions to meet problems in the alarm sector have been behind its achievements. “Personally, my greatest achievements have been selling ACT products through worldwide distributors and reducing false alarms globally," he said.
ACT started with Grant's own invention – the Checkmate audio and visual test meter which enabled installers to monitor an alarm circuit at the control panel while remotely testing alarm devices around the building. As well as finding detector, cable and connection faults, Checkmate also identified unexplained false alarms caused by induced AC and RFI interference.
To complete its three year development Grant had to borrow money, do without holidays "and sell my Golf Gti".
ACT's catalogue now has a full range of test equipment including multimeters, alarm installers test kits and the award winning Intelligent Battery Tester, which was the most complicated and costly to produce but is now widely used by alarm companies throughout the world.
Of the 20 new products, the Rapport337 Multifunction CCTV and Alarm Tester and 10 Minute Shunt Lock installer are two particular products ACT says are set to be a success (more details next month).
