Area of cost controlAction to take
AcquisitionRely on standard, easily located IP network components wherever possible.
InstallationUse IP-based system components wherever possible to reduce the cost of wiring. It’s not necessary (or even always cost effective) to have to the network, but clusters of devices can be easily connected that way. If you use analog video cameras, connect them to a DVR or switch that integrates with an IP network. Keep the amount of software you have to install on client systems to a minimum. Look for components that deliver their user interfaces through web browsers without requiring special installed software.
OperationSet up a secure network environment that permits operating systems from a remote web browser either on or off-site
MaintenanceVerify that the components you purchase can be remotely maintained. Verify that there are diagnostic modes that allow you to troubleshoot and reset components remotely.Eliminate as many moving parts from your systems as possible. Use network-attached storage where feasible.
