It's Monday morning, the phone keeps ringing and irate tenants are banging at the door. Just another week in social housing … unless you work at Sadeh Lok.
Staff at the Huddersfield housing association are more likely to be found breathing deeply, focusing on their work and transmitting good vibes to colleagues.

The management team has hired local life coach Stuart Clarke to help employees deal with stress.

He is available to all 33 employees for one day every two weeks – at a cost of £560. The visits are part of a stress management programme that includes talking over problems, setting goals and building confidence.

Clarke said: "I think some larger organisations will struggle to meet new health and safety standards with things like work-life balance. Coaching can help."

Meanwhile, a survey has found high levels of stress in the housing sector. Recruitment consultant Hays Montrose questioned 132 workers and found almost half had considered leaving the sector to reduce their stress levels. It followed a survey for the Housing Corporation that found associations could face a bill of up to £350m to compensate harassed staff (HT 8 August, page 8).
