In line with the requirements of the security consultancy Code of Practice PAS 49:2002, the Association of Security Consultants (ASC) has announced that members registered with the organisation as independent security consultants – and listed in the ASC's online and hard copy directories – will be issued with an ID card.

In addition to the card providing the usual details such as name and membership number etc, it will now be possible for clients to confirm a holder's identity by checking the identity card photograph on the ASC's online directory (at www.securityconsultants.org.uk) The cards will also confirm the holder's membership of the ASC, which is now considered by many industry practitioners to provide the foremost resource of truly independent security consultants.

Simon Lambert, the ASC Council member responsible for implementing the new cards, told SMT that the process of card issuing should begin this month.

From January 2004 onwards, the ASC's online and hard copy directories of consultants will only include card-holding, registered and independent security consultants.
