Bill Wyllie is the new chairman of The Security Institute. Formerly vice-president and director of security at MBNA Bank (Europe), Bill takes over the role from Geoff Whitfield, the organisation’s founding chairman and principal consultant at Geoff Whitfield Consulting. Bill makes a plea for more Institute members in this month’s Letters To The Editor (pp20-22), and there’s an in-depth discussion with Bill and Geoff on the future direction of the Institute in The SMT Interview (pp26-30).
Manned security contractor Initial Security has appointed Mike Bluestone in the new post of director of training. Mike – who holds a Masters degree in security management – has enjoyed a distinguished career in the industry, having worked at the BSB Group and, of late, run his own consultancy (Integra Security Solutions). He has also pioneered management training and awareness courses for both security and non-security personnel across the public and private sectors, and is an active member of Security Management Today’s Editorial Advisory Board.
Nice Systems – the global provider of video-based security solutions – has announced the appointment of Moshe Leder as vice-president/general manager for NiceVision in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Before joining Nice, Moshe was executive vice-president of sales and marketing at Flash Networks. He has also held senior positions at Magic Software (as vice-president of worldwide distribution) and later on as managing director of Magic’s Israeli operation.
FrontBridge Technologies delivers Total Message Management services for e-mail and instant message compliance, security and business continuity (including virus scanning and spam filtering). Bernard Goulet is the company’s new national manager of regulatory affairs, and will now host a series of international seminars at which he’ll counsel client organisations on matters arising from the Data Protection and Freedom of Information Acts, in addition to Sarbanes-Oxley.
Kim Rahfaldt joins Group 4 Technology – a leading developer of advanced technology security management systems – as its public relations (PR) manager. Kim will oversee all PR activities worldwide. Rahfaldt has worked in the industry for a decade, having started her career at Northern Computers in the marketing department. Following that, Kim worked for InfoGraphic Systems and GE Security.
Chris Lewis Security Services recently appointed Spencer Garrett as sales consultant in a new role established to support the company’s continued expansion into the multinational and blue chip market sectors. The Oxford-based installation outfit will benefit from Spencer’s extensive experience in the corporate sales sector, as he has previously worked on multi-million pound accounts for organisations such as London Underground, the Metropolitan Police and the National Health Service.
COE Group – the developer and supplier of advanced analogue and digital CCTV systems – is expanding its technical sales team with the appointment of Joel Beltran as applications and technical support specialist. Based in France, Joel will work closely with EU business development manager Yane Laperche-Riteau to increase sales and client contacts. Joel joins from Ammec Spie where, as technical support engineer, he was responsible for the roll-outs of IP video surveillance systems in a number of complex city centre schemes including Strasbourg.
J Durrance & Co, the Thurrock-based physical security specialist, has appointed Ray Puttock as sales and marketing manager, while Mark Campbell takes over the role of new business development manager. Ray joins from the physical security division at Secom, and boasts experience gained during a long career in both the security and fire sectors. For his part, Mark has worked with some of the major names in the security doors sector.
National installer of CCTV and access control solutions Quadrant Video Systems has expanded its UK sales force, appointing Dave Paisey to lead its contract sales team. With over 30 years’ security industry experience, including a decade spent in maintenance contract sales, this latest appointment sees Dave – previously with Initial – hired to provide post-installation service contract support to Quadrant’s expanding client base. He will cover the north of the UK.
Servocell – the specialist for piezo-actuator technologies – has named Simon Powell as its managing director. Simon will assume responsibility for the strategic leadership of the company. Powell has been in the engineering design industry for almost 20 years. Prior to joining Servocell, he was the technical director at PowerBreaker plc, where he looked after all product development, invention and manufacturing. Prior to that, Simon held senior management positions within several well-known design and innovation companies.
Camlock Systems has strengthened its technical field-based team with the promotion of Tim Parsons to the position of southern area sales executive. Tim will manage the London and the South East, South West, South Wales, Birmingham and East Anglian territories, bringing a proven track record to the tasks at hand following several years within the customer service department at Camlock Systems’ head office. Tim’s new role will be to help clients evaluate their security requirements, and then devise suitable solutions.
Glen Higson is the newly-appointed chief executive at DOWSHU, the digital recording specialist. Previously, Glen worked at Honeywell, Norbain and Andover Controls before relocating to Ireland and DOWSHU’s Irish office in Cork. His immediate goal is to grow and develop the DOWSHU brand into “a recognised industry leader”.
Access control specialist Bewator has announced the appointment of Marc Butler as its new area sales manager for Bewator International. Butler is tasked with managing sales in the Southern European region.
