Stephen Haddrill will succeed Mary Francis as director general of the Association of British Insurers (ABI) on 3 May. Haddrill is currently director general of the Fair Markets Group at the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and boasts extensive knowledge of the financial services industry. He has spent much of his career at the DTI, where he has served as director of both employment relations and consumer affairs. Prior to joining the DTI, Haddrill – a graduate of Oxford University – held senior posts in the Central Policy Unit in Hong Kong and the Department of Energy.
The International School for Security and Explosives Education – the only educational establishment in the world to offer academic training and qualifications in explosives, searching techniques, security and counter-terrorism – has created an Advisory Board with the appointment of four non-executive directors. They are Patrick Mercer OBE (pictured, shadow minister for Homeland Security), Major General Patrick Cordingley DSO (commander of Britain’s initial deployment in the last Gulf War), Major Michael Coldrick MBE (chairman of the World Ordnance Disposal Foundation) and Alun Evans, an expert in international affairs with both Government and commercial experience.
Former Saturo Controls development director Ian Budd has been appointed as business development and product sales director at security systems specialist Tour Andover Controls. Ian joins the company – recently formed by the merger of TAC and Andover Controls – following a 22-year career in the building controls sector. He oversaw the high profile Broadgate (City of London) and Vauxhall Cross (MI6) building control projects. During his 11-year spell at ABC/Saturo Controls, Ian was recently responsible for technical innovation changes.
Stuart Lowden, the managing director of guarding contractor Wilson James, has begun his term as chairman of the ASIS’s UK Chapter 208. Stuart intends to focus his attentions on developing educational programmes (including a very strong CPP element) and delivering high quality seminars and events for ASIS UK members.
Control Risks Group has announced the appointment of Tom Carver (the BBC’s former Washington DC correspondent) and Art Brown – former CIA East Asian Division chief – as joint heads of the company’s all-new Strategic Solutions Group. The Group has been set up to advise multinational companies on the implications of international strategic, political and security issues for their businesses. They’ll be looking at factors ranging from major political upheavals through to local legislative procedures.
Chris Mills has been recruited as the new security manager at ADP Security Systems. Chris
is now responsible for managing the security officers who provide ADP’s core business services. The role will encompass client site visits, taking care of officers’ welfare and checking that Service Level Agreements are honoured in full. Chris will also be reviewing in-house training on site and Health and Safety issues and taking a look at various reporting procedures.
GE Security (formerly known as Aritech) has made several appointments within its UK operation. Dave Lunn takes on the role of general manager, joining from GE Commercial and Industrial where he held the position of European sales director for lighting products. As part of the company’s strategy to grow sales of video products, two CCTV managers – Phil Banks and Richard King – will look after sales to clients in the north and south. Phil was formerly with Neurodynamics, while Richard joins from Storetech Electronics.
As part of its ongoing expansion, Aasset Security – Samsung Electronics’ exclusive manufacturer’s agent in the UK – has named Robert Chandler as sales manager. Joining from Vicon Industries, Robert’s remit encompasses strengthening the comprehensive range of Samsung equipment to meet the needs of end users looking for bespoke digital recording and dedicated networked surveillance solutions.
Visionlink has announced the appointment of Martin Butterworth as the company’s UK sales director. Martin, who joined Visionlink in June 2004 as northern sales director, boasts over 25 years’ experience within the electronic security sector. Prior to joining Visionlink, Martin was instrumental in establishing the CCTV distribution concern Network Video Centre.
Total security solutions provider Visiontech – specialists in network video monitoring, CCTV, intruder alarms and access control, in addition to Help Desk support – has a new company director. Andy Bromley is the former managing director of Farsight, and has also served as an independent consultant with B&D Associates.
Trevor Perks has joined Camlock Systems as product development manager with a remit to extend the locking system manufacturer’s expansion into new markets both within the UK and overseas. After qualifying in production engineering, Trevor trained with lock manufacturer Josiah Parkes & Sons. He then joined Lowe & Fletcher in 1991 as technical and product development manager in charge of product development.
Allied Telesyn, the global provider of end-to-end Ethernet/IP security solutions, has appointed Philip Yim as executive vice president of global marketing and product development. In addition to leading the global product development operation that spans five regional development centres around the world, Philip will oversee the strategic direction and execution of corporate marketing initiatives, including brand management and marketing communications.
The tear tape, coated film and security specialists PP Payne, Morane and Laminex have merged their operations into a single business. Within the company sits a new division, Payne Security, strengthening its position as a leading provider of brand protection, document authentication and personal ID solutions. Stephen Pinchen takes on the role of business development director for the division, which should be fully operational from June onwards.
Newell & Budge, the independent IT consultancy, has appointed Andrew Campbell as head of consulting for the UK and Ireland. Andrew’s role is to build on the increasing market demand for the company’s services among the long term client base. Those services include strategic IT security consulting, business change management and a variety of programme and project consultancy initiatives.
