Morgan Sindall’s fit out division has appointed Tim Smith (pictured) as commercial director. In his new role Smith will have responsibility for the commercial direction of the fit out business, which includes workplace fit out expert Morgan Lovell, office fit out specialist Overbury and retail and leisure fit out company Vivid Interiors.

Mott McDonald has named Mike Blackburn chairman following the retirement of Tim Thirlwall. Blackburn assumes the role having already been managing director of the group since 1998 and group board director for two years previous to that.

M&E firm NG Bailey has appointed Mark Andrews as new chief executive officer. Andrews, 44, was most recently president and CEO of Pirelli Cables and Systems, North America. He previously headed Balfour Beatty’s Power Networks business, was a director of Balfour Kilpatrick and spent five years in senior roles at BOC Group.

Rowland Homes has appointed David Gray as senior land manager. Gray will be responsible for all land activities from locating and appraising sites through to their acquisition and seeing them through the planning process.

The Urban Design Alliance (UDAL) has appointed Marcus Wilshere (pictured), as its new chairman. Wilshere is currently director of urban design at urban initiatives. As a group of leading professional and campaigning bodies, the aim of UDAL is to promote awareness of how urban design can make healthier, more sustainable and safer cities.

Parting company
Tim Renwick is to leave his post as deputy MD of Multiplex after less than two years in the role.

Rodger Fidgen, senior partner at QS Gardiner & Theobald’s is to retire in May after 30 years with the firm Galliford Try has confirmed the retirement of non-executive director Hugh Try.

Len Clark, managing director at Bowey Construction, has retired after 20 years heading up the firm.
