Who grabbed the spotlight at this year's Lighting Design Awards?

Projects as diverse as the stunning Hotel Puerta América in Madrid, a funicular railway in North Yorkshire and Peterborough Cathedral were among the outstanding winners at this year's Lighting Design Awards.

Winners were selected from a host of entries across 15 categories and judged by senior figures in the lighting industry. Those singled out for recognition included three products, 11 outstanding projects, plus the Awards' first lighting designer of the year. The victors celebrated in style at the awards prize giving ceremony at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London on 30 March.

The awards are organised by Emap and the Institution of Lighting Engineers and are supported by the Lighting Industry Federation, International Association of Lighting Designers and the Institution of Electrical Engineers. They were sponsored by: Microlights, iLight, Lamp Lighting, Trilux, Lutron, Holophane, Philips, Wila, Reggiani, Dynalite, Fitzgerald Lighting, Ansorg, Oldham Lighting, PLASA and DW Windsor.
