Amec is among the first UK firms to win major reconstruction work in Iraq. The firm is heading for the desert state after winning a contract worth up to $250 million with Fluor, it’s joint venture partner in the country.

The contract is to provide engineering services for the restoration, rehabilitation, operation and maintenance of power generation facilities across Iraq.

Work on the contract started in March and will take place during 2004 and 2005. The firm is retaining its own security services in addition to security provided by the coalition forces.
