Bids for the fourth round of arm’s-length management organisations total more than £2bn and 200,000-plus homes.
Fourteen councils lodged bids for inclusion in the round, five less than first expressed an interest in setting up ALMOs last October.

The bidders are: Bassetlaw, for 8000 homes; Brent, 700 homes; Bury, 9154 homes; Ealing, 19,195 homes; Eastbourne, 4000 homes; Hammersmith & Fulham, 18,500 homes; Manchester, 50,000 homes; Newark & Sherwood, 5600 homes; Nottingham, 34,000 homes; Rotherham, 25,000 homes; Sandwell, 35,828; Sheffield, 23,500 homes; Slough, 7500 homes and Wolverhampton, 26,700 homes.

Hackney, Salford, Stafford, West Lancashire and Wear Valley dropped out of the process.

The ODPM is expected to decide whether to accept the bids in March.
