The political PARTIES’ conference season last autumn saw the successful deployment of Dorset Police’s ‘island site’ principle. Various outside police forces and security specialists were drafted in from across the country, and the town of Bournemouth searched and secured prior to the beginning of the Liberal Democrats’ and Conservative’s conferences.

At the heart of the security operations was a large-scale CCTV set-up (similar in size to that which would be in place for monitoring a town centre). Police-deployed fixed and PTZ cameras covering arterial routes and road intersections were installed at various locations to create a ‘secure conference zone’.

Staffed 24 hours per day by police officers, the temporary surveillance system’s Control Room CCTV management and recording set-up made use of X250 system keyboards, a Tesseract SM switching matrix, text overlay, protocol converters and alarm interface units from Synectics.
