No more limits

Smoke detection can be more comprehensively integrated with security systems with the FireVu VSD (video smoke detection ) system.

The system advances VSD from being a system limited to being monitored on local site-based computers to one where the alarm, including the images, can be distributed to an unlimited number of remote control centres.

The new system also remotely monitors a potential fire to ensure fast response and remote testing and diagnostics.

The new TCP/IP based system is easier to use and maintain than the company's well-established VSD-8 system and it allows smoke and flame detection to be more comprehensively integrated with security and facilities management systems.

Wired for savings

Installers are said to save time and money when using the improved and extended fire alarm range from Newlec Electrical.

As well as conventional four wire and the more sophisticated two wire control panels, Newlec offers smoke and heat detectors, sounders and beacons, call points and magnetic door holders.

The company says a four wire system has lower equipment costs but more complex wiring and installation. Two wire technology slightly increases equipment cost although this is usually offset by savings in wiring and installation.

But because building layout can have a significant effect on system design, the company is supporting the range with a technical helpline to advise installers on design and product selection.

Tough character

KAC has extended its call point technology with the introduction of an IP67 sealed WCP Outdoor Call Point range designed for use in harsh environments.

The IP67 rating is said to far exceed the requirements of IPx3 specified in EN54 part 11.

This makes it suitable for environments where there are large amounts of dust, dirt or moisture.

Two features are said to reduce installation time: the fascia is a simple snap on fixtureless press fit to the back box; and three standard 20mm cable entries are fitted, two in the top and one in the bottom of the back box, allowing in-out or pass through wiring.

Uplifting idea

The Towermatic is said to be a totally new access platform idea that enhances safety and productivity when working at height.

Supplied in a compact unit weighing no more than 320kgs, the scissor working platform has six working heights ranging from 1.65m to 6m and can be altered in seconds.

It does not require a power source, engine or batteries - the only power needed to raise and lower it is human.

Facelift, suppliers of the access platform, says that it has multi safety features designed to ensure it meets and exceeds safety legislation.

Life for two years

Burg has launched a battery operated, electronic cabinet lock which uses a very low power miniature battery with a life of two years.

Overcoming the short battery life which has been a problem with electronic locks, the unit uses Servocell Active Latch technology.

Useable in everything from gym lockers to filing cabinets, the lock has a vibration coded locking module which makes it harder for anyone to intercept the security code when an authorised user is accessing the cabinet.

Lock up your DVR

Digital recorders can be protected with the DV1 lockable enclosure from Conway Security Products.

The company says the design is different from that of the enclosures for VCRs and needs more complex cable management requirements.

A back plate has a slot and slide configuration for BNC connectors and space for power, telemetry and the additional cables required by a DVR. It has an optional screw-on cable cover.

Sensor duty

Intrepid MicroTrack is a buried cable sensor designed to detect intruders and pinpoint their position to within three meters.

MicroTrack is the newest addition to the Intrepid family of adaptive perimeter intrusion systems. It includes a processor unit and two pairs of buried cables, each of which is placed 6-8 inches underground, creating an electromagnetic detection field that allows operators to detect disturbances and precisely locate intruders.

A single MicroTrack is capable of securing up to 400 meters and multiple systems can be networked together to secure sites of any size.

Because it is a covert, buried system, it is less vulnerable to defeat and more aesthetically pleasing.

Cost saver in one

Designed to protect buildings with high ceilings and open spaces, the Fireray Reflective smoke detector from Fire Fighting Enterprises combines an infrared transmitter and receiver in a single unit, making installation simpler and faster.

An infrared beam is projected on to a small high precision prismatic reflector mounted on the opposite wall. The reflector returns the beam to the transmitter/receiver unit where the signal is analysed for smoke.

In suitable buildings this "all in one design" can achieve significant cost savings over systems that use separate transmitters and receivers, says the company.
An optional low level controller allows personnel to carry out alarm tests from a convenient location without the lengthy and expensive process of accessing detectors installed at height.
