A new motor installation is saving bakery produce supplier Cereform around £15 000 per year.
Fans of soya-based baking products can rest easy that their favourites will continue to hit the shelves. Cereform, the only UK manufacturer of soya flour, has undertaken a new motor installation using high efficiency motors from ABB.
The firm produces around 12 000 tonnes of flour per year at its Royston site, with 120 motors involved in the process. The firm is gradually phasing out the older model motors at the factory. As part of this upgrade, ABB motor service partner Heasell Electromechanical Services supplied and installed 18 ABB EFF1 high efficiency ac motors to run nine flour mills.
Each mill uses 22 kW motors. The site runs 24 hours on weekdays and maintenance of the old motors was a big problem. Cereform estimates it will save around £5000 a year on maintenance and replacement parts. A further £10 000 of savings will come from a reduction in energy use compared to the old motors.
