A CAPITAL IDEA: Places for People has received detailed planning permission for the £20m first phase of the 8500-home Granton Waterfront development in Edinburgh. Construction of the 130 homes will start this summer as a joint venture with developer Burrell Company.

From July 2004, 27 homes will be available for rent and the remainder will be sold. The architects for the scheme were Reiach & Hall and Elder & Cannon.
