Selecta, in its 21st anniversary year, has left its 'start up' reputation well and truly behind
Selecta Systems is known as the systems company for start-up fabricators. A wide range of window suites are available, including systems for the holiday home market. Hardwdare and trims are available, and second hand machinery can be bought and traded in by fabricators as they begin manufacturing or want to reach to a new capacity. But after 21 years the Birmingham extrusions house has well and truly worn out this label. The reason is the Advance 70 window system.
‘The Advance 70 is Selecta's future and is proving to be the same for our customers’, says Mark Richmond, Sales & Marketing Director of Selecta.
Visitors to Glassex 2005 will remember the product launch, which was accompanied by an Aston Martin car on the exhibition stand. The system actually became available in September 2005, and has since generated considerable interest and ultimately, new business.
Designed with Document L in mind, this five chamber 70mm system offers the facility of a single hook bead for easier glazing and improved security. Other benefits include co-extruded low sight line gasket, and the choice of sculptured or chamfered suite. Advance 70 is available in White, and Golden Oak or Rosewood woodgrains. Traditional sash horns are another cosmetic option.
Enquiries
Advance 70 continues to generate enquiries from well established fabricators. That said, the largest of Selecta's 130 customers represents just four per cent of overall turnover. Mark Richmond likens managing the customer base to watering and pruning a plant, which is why no potential customer is overlooked. Small fabricators together mean significant turnover. A customised long wheelbase Mercedes Sprinter van makes a handy demonstration vehicle for window systems.
Quite set-up possible
Selecta's premises in Great Barr, Birmingham, have expanded over the years under the leadership of Managing Director Mark Weihe. The company actually began extruding in 1997. Foiling is also done in-house. Nearby toolmaking facilities mean that it is possible to set up new customer in just five working days.
Selecta is flying the Union Jack this year to underline its status as one of the few British-owned extruders. Having reached the 21 year landmark, the Advance 70 system now points the way forward.
