Awards event marks end of carbon-saving campaign

One hundred days of hard work and energy-saving steps were rewarded at the Carbon Clean up Campaign awards event.

Held at London Olympia on 10 October, the awards aimed to reward the hard work of those who took part and to highlight their achievements – in terms of campaigns, themed days, staff involvement and carbon champions as well as actual carbon savings made.

The event marked the end of the Carbon Clean up Campaign, which finished on 12 September and was a chance for those who took part to share their successes and their experiences from the campaign.

CIBSE president David Hughes chaired the event, while Karen Germain, The Carbon Trust networks manager, spoke about her organisation’s involvement in the campaign and its hopes for the future. John Field, author of TM22: Energy assessment and reporting method explained the importance of measurement in managing emissions and the role of the tool in the campaign.

Although all those shortlisted for each category were present, the names of the winners had been kept secret until the awards event itself, leading to an atmosphere of anticipation and friendly competition. Entries for the different categories were of an extremely high standard, with organisations submitting impressive supporting evidence and backing up their nominations with real results. Awards were handed out to the winners while certificates were provided for all the runners-up.
