Yes, Presentation has given evidence to the ODPM select committee on the future role of the Housing Corporation (19 March, page 9). But it is important to know the context in which we made our comments.

In 1986 the corporation embarked on a five-year strategy that was rightly applauded for doing a great deal to promote race relations. It also led to many black-led housing associations being set up to address the needs of black and minority-ethnic communities. Now, new challenges beckon for housing providers and other organisations concerned with creating safe, sustainable and balanced communities. It is within this context that the corporation must have the kind of vision it has demonstrated in the past.

It should develop more ways to support black-led organisations and recognise the intrinsic role they play in creating cohesive communities. This presents a challenge to the corporation’s new top team, and, as our comments are intended to be constructive, not critical, we very much look forward to working with them.
