A new centre of training excellence has been launched to help private sector practitioners prepare for SIA licensing and regulation
Based at Cirencester College, The Academy of Security has been established by representatives from companies including Group 4 Securicor, SITO, Step To Training, ProteXus Training and Business Link as a “unique partnership” whereupon employers can actively influence and determine what a given educational establishment offers to the industry at large.
The Academy’s future direction is being set by an Advisory Board guided by chairman Richard Keith (general manager of TNC plc). As well as those concerns mentioned, Advanced Peripheral Systems and Kudos have also joined the Board’s ranks as it aims to provide the complete portfolio of training and qualifications needed to fulfil the private sector’s needs over the coming years. Further co-optees will come on board as Security Industry Authority (SIA) licensing begins to progress into 2005.
July saw The Academy of Security run its first series of door supervisor training courses in Cirencester. These courses trained 35 delegates for their SIA licenses. Thanks to support from Business Link and Cirencester College itself, The Academy was able to offer these pilot courses at no extra cost to the
door supervisors taking part. All passed their SITO/ National Open College Network Level 2 qualifications in door supervision, and will be able to apply for their national licenses within the next few weeks.
In time, The Academy of Security will offer training and qualifications in other disciplines, including static and patrol guarding and close protection.
