A series of spectacular glass panels manufactured by Daedalian Glass Ltd were a key feature in an award-winning garden designed by Taylor Patrick McVean (TPM) for this year’s Royal Historical Society show at Tatton Park in Cheshire in July.

Daedalian’s brief was to produce designs to illustrate the North West’s diverse geological strata, and the company worked to a lead time of only six weeks to design and produce the 13 panels.

To achieve this the company used 15mm toughened glass, with several kiln-formed textures and coloured fused glass bonded to the surface representing the ice ages, coal deposits, flora, fauna and fossilised creatures. The glass panels – the biggest at 2.8m x 1.5m and the smallest at 1.27m x 1.5m – which proved to be something of a showstopper for visitors, were set in groups of three at intervals on either side of a central walkway, encapsulating the relevant strata of each area.
