Sean Simmons (‘Letters’, CM, July/August) berated CITB for not having deep enough pockets to fund all the training and apprenticeships the industry so badly needs. I’ve a feeling the letter also needs to be forwarded to all who pay the levy- and to the Chancellor too!

If the UK wants a world-leading construction industry (and for some it is an ‘if’, sadly) then we will have to keep building it. There’s a massive re-construction exercise ahead of us all globally. If we wish to survive as a species on this planet, then rapidly re-configuring our new and existing built infrastructure so that all can use it efficiently - with far less ecological downside - is Priority No 1.

Sustainable communities are the ONLY ones we want. (Hands up who wants to live in an un-sustainable one?) The answer to how much we should invest in quality training - is everything we have! It’s the best investment that we could ever make!

At the same time we must see that the training is bang up to date - if not ahead of its time - in terms of what we want our future built world to be like - sustainable.
