Haworth Tompkins is declared Architect the Year

Some of the capital’s most high-profile buildings have been recognised with RIBA London awards, the first step towards Stirling Prize glory.

The Shard, the Aquatics Centre, King’s Cross and Blackfriars stations and Tate Britain were among those honoured at a ceremony last night.

Haworth Tompkins was named RIBA London Architect of the Year after picking up three awards.

RCKa was named RIBA London Emerging Architect of the Year after landing a gong for its TNG youth centre in south-east London.

BD’s last two Architects of the Year, dRMM and Alison Brooks, each picked up an award for private houses in east London.

And 6a Architects also won for a private house for the writer Rowan Moore.

Zaha Hadid’s Aquatics Centre became the final Olympic project to enter the race for the Stirling Prize, picking up an award since re-opening minus its temporary seating wings.
